GRUB CONTROL

erie pa grub control

Grubs are the larvae form of various hard-shelled beetles that feed on turf grass roots.  The beetles lay their eggs in the lawn during the summer months.  When the eggs hatch, they work their way into the soil and vigorously feed on the roots of grass plants through the late summer and fall.  If left unchecked, they can cause severe damage resulting in costly lawn repairs.  Our Preventative Grub Control treatment is applied at the same time as your regular summer treatment.  It prevents damage from grubs with one application for one year – guaranteed.  Perennial Green uses Merit brand grub control.  It is one of the safest and most effective grub control products on the market today.  By having Perennial Green apply this important treatment, you can be assured that your investment in your lawn is protected.

CORE AERATION

lawn aeration in erie pa

When the soil becomes compacted or develops a thick thatch layer it is difficult for air, water, and nutrients to penetrate into the root zone.  This weakens the turf and creates an opportunity for weeds, insects and diseases to take over.  Core Aeration removes thousands of soil plugs and redistributes them on the surface of the lawn.  As the plugs break down, the soil mixes with the thatch and speeds up its decomposition.  Aeration increases the movement of air, water, and nutrients into the root zone while also relieving soil compaction.  The looser soil promotes rapid root expansion where food reserves are stored for the plants’ future use.  Your lawn will be thicker, greener, and healthier overall by having your lawn aerated periodically.  Fall is the best time to perform this service when grass roots are naturally deepening.  When done in the spring, it may disturb the pre-emergent barrier applied with the spring treatment.

Lime

Erie Lime Lawn Application

Sometimes referred to as the “Work Horse in the soil”, lime performs several important functions.  It supplies Calcium and Magnesium, both vital nutrients for healthy turf growth but not found in fertilizers.  Since most soils in our region of the country are acidic, lime should be applied periodically to raise soil pH and correct acidity.  Calcium acts as a regulator to aid in the availability of many plant nutrients.  It increases microbial activity in the soil that helps convert the fertilizers we apply into usable food for the grass.  It improves soil structure and aids in thatch decomposition. Soils will become more porous, increasing air circulation and the ability of the soil to absorb and hold moisture.  Magnesium plays an important role in Photosynthesis and Chlorophyll production.  Lime also reduces the toxicity of certain soil elements such as Aluminum and Manganese, when left unchecked can be detrimental to healthy plant growth.  Lime can be applied at any time of the year, but spring and fall are preferred.

Fungicide

erie fungicide lawn application

While most diseases in our area run their course and disappear without damage occurring, some diseases like red thread and rust can detract from your lawn’s appearance. Fungicide treatments are available to quickly knock down the symptoms of turf diseases. Be aware that fungicides tend to be costly, control may be short term and repeat applications may be necessary if the symptoms reappear.
